WILA & the Xicato Spot Light the Nomura Auditorium

Nomura International’s new London office at 1 Angel Lane, between Cannon Street station and London Bridge by the river Thames, was developed by Architects Fletcher Priest and Building Services Consultants MEIT Associates. It has won a number of awards for its design and small environmental footprint.

Inserted into the office building is a 216 seat auditorium. The ‘box within a box’ serves to give the auditorium a special environment, and at the same time, achieves acoustic isolation. Its organic shape is a direct response to the existing facades and proximate building form, with a curved screen reflecting this idea once inside the auditorium. The material palette juxtaposes natural and sustainable materials.

The ceiling comprises wooden slats with acoustic material behind. The vertical beams are 110 mm apart, and with the raked seating, it was decided to use LEDs to minimize maintenance. It was particularly important that there be no scalloping light effect on the wooden beams.

Designers selected 136 of WILA’s Recessed E Connect Nero Accent downlights housing the 1000-lm Xicato Spot Module in 4000K color temperature. A DALI driver, 60-degree reflector, and black finish complete the luminaire. They were positioned within 110-by-160-by-60-mm metal boxes fixed between the wooden slats, achieving around 400 lux on the seating.

The same luminaire was used for emergency lighting where the plate housed the charging LED and the emergency driver and batteries.  The same luminaire was used for emergency lighting where the plate housed the charging LED and the emergency driver and batteries.

Xicato is a recognized leader in creating LED modules that provide superior aesthetics, economics, and durability. Xicato aspires to be the trusted partner of the global lighting design community and luminaire manufacturers.
