Philips opens first UK consumer lighting store
The first ever UK Philips lighting store opened its doors recently to rave reviews. Set to become Londoners destination of choice for their home lighting needs, Philips Light Gallery on Westbourne Grove will showcase a selection of Philips’ consumer lighting solutions and stock a number of exclusive lines.
With a focus on energy efficient lighting, the store is designed for easy navigation allowing shoppers to browse by room. The store will showcase lighting for living areas, bathrooms, children’s bedrooms and also outdoor solutions. In addition a variety of spotlights and downlights will be on display and there will be a dedicated area for the Living Colors range, which is designed to encourage people to paint with light to create and enhance the ambiance of a home. The store will also offer lighting controls and a range of energy efficient light bulbs.
Lighting is undergoing a huge transformation as a result of LED and the store will showcase the design possibilities now available with this new technology. Contemporary lighting, such as Cielo which is designed to look like a normal lampshade but has no visible light source, will be a key part of the store’s offering. Philips Light Gallery will also be the exclusive UK distributor for the newly launched Nick Knack.
Inspired by the Dutch artist Mondriaan, who famously combined lines and vivid colors, Nick-Knack is available in five bright colours; black, white, yellow, red and blue. From a simple, straight line, Nick-Knack offers surprising and versatile possibilities for lighting and styling your space. Simply by adjusting the hinges you can change its form to provide dimmable, direct and indirect lighting for all lighting needs: task lighting, accent lighting, diffuse lighting and ambiance creation.
Philips Lighting Gallery will not only cater for all your home lighting needs but provide expert advice on the use of light in the home and guidance on purchasing energy efficient light bulbs. Shoppers are bewildered by the array of options available to them, including Energy Saving Compact Fluorescent, Halogens and LED bulbs, with 50% of shoppers so confused they actually walk away without making a purchase. All staff have undergone training to understand the benefits of LED and will be on hand to help shoppers make the appropriate purchase decisions.
Peter Maskell, Philips Chairman and MD of Lighting comments; ”Philips seeks to inspire people to experiment with light and to discover the endless possibilities it provides to enhance and transform a space. Philips Light Gallery is an extension of this aspiration. With the final stage of the incandescent phase out now complete, more than ever, consumers are looking for advice and guidance on energy efficient lighting – whether that be how to purchase the right bulb for their home or how best to light a specific space. Through Philips Light Gallery we want to give shoppers a better understanding of the benefits lighting can provide both in terms of design and energy savings.“
