UK’s Mark Group Turns on to C&I with Acquisition of Somar
With the acquisition of Somar International Ltd., the leading energy-efficiency company Mark Group is now providing energy-efficiency solutions for the industrial and commercial sector. The acquisition has secured jobs at Somar’s new base at the Innovation Centre, near Falmouth in Cornwall, UK, and sees existing Somar Managing Director, Ian Hambly now reporting directly in to Mark Group Chief Commercial Officer, Bill Rumble.
Trading under the respected Somar brand name and with over 20 years’ experience, Somar boasts an international customer base to rival any competitor in its sector. Such companies as Coca Cola, Bunzl, GSK, Nestle, Ford, GKN, Peugeot, and Carlsberg are included in its portfolio, each enjoying average annual energy reductions of around 74%, with paybacks typically achieved within 9 to 18 months. With the acquisition, Mark Group hopes to not only broaden its existing commercial client base, but also foster new relationships and drive the energy-saving sector forward.
Hambly said: “Mark Group is a well run, ambitious, and entrepreneurial business with established market share of the energy saving sector across the UK, Australia, New Zealand, and North America. This acquisition is a perfect fit for Somar; it combines microgeneration technologies such as solar power with energy efficiency solutions such as intelligent lighting and motor controls.
“Furthermore, Somar’s extensive experience in exporting solutions around the world supports Mark Group’s increasing international aspirations – opening new trading routes, helping both brands expand further.”
Mark Group CEO Lee Cottingham added: “We have our eyes firmly fixed on the future and while a great many opportunities are continuing to grow within the residential sector for both energy-saving and energy-generating solutions, we also have the expertise and the client base from which to grow in the commercial sector. Our acquisition of Somar is a significant step along that path.”
Mark Group is a world leader in energy saving solutions. Operating from over 30 service distribution centers worldwide and employing approximately 2500 personnel, the company installs energy-saving and energy-generating measures into around 7000 homes, schools, and businesses every week.
