Blackberry Light-Up Bike Inspires Instructables Winner
Instructables.com members shared bright ideas on do-it-yourself lighting during the dark days of December. The Instructables Make It Glow contest inspired tinkerers and tradespeople to light up rooms, shacks, bicycles, and more – and then upload step-by-step instructions so anyone can do it.
Inspired by the Blackberry Bold commercial, Make It Glow Grand Prize-winner Adobi investigated phosphorescent paint that glows for ups to 12 hours and takes only 10 minutes to charge up. Adobi (only a screen name is disclosed on the website) wrote, “I must say, after creating this bike I feel much safer riding in the dark, cars are able to spot me from quite a far distance. I’ve even gotten a few compliments on the cool style of the bike! Safety and style… it’s a win win!” He or she received a 13″ Macbook Air along with an Instructables prize pack.
Both first-prize winners used recycled materials for their Instructables and received an iPad 2 along with an Instructables prize pack. Random Canadian made a statement in protest of the “death of the incandescent bulb” using an old Bacardi bottle. Liwang is actually Isang Litrong Liwanag (A Liter of Light) a sustainable lighting project that aims to bring the eco-friendly solar bottle bulb to low-income communities.

You must join the website to post an Instructable, but there are lots of cool projects to view: “passionate people share what they do and how they do it, and learn from and collaborate with others.” Instructables.com originated at the MIT Media Lab as students built places to share their projects and help others.
