Theobald is an independent lighting designer with over 30 years experience in lighting, and a background in theater and museum lighting. The past 18 years have been dedicated to architectural lighting design in independent practice during which time he has been associated with a number of award-winning schemes. Theobald is a regular contributor to lighting journals and has been a speaker at a number of design industry conferences.
Most recently he has led discussion in favor of credentialing for architectural lighting designers. In a recent guest column he wrote,”The topic of credentialing has arisen in a variety of venues around the world and is being debated hotly within the architectural lighting design community. For IALD, it was clear that a formal validation of the architectural lighting design profession on a global basis had become necessary.” The article goes on to delineate the differences among certification, licensing, and credentialing. The IALD Credentialing Task Force plans to present a recommendation to the Board of Directors in July 2012.
Founded in 1969 and based in Chicago, the International Association of Lighting Designers is an internationally recognized organization dedicated solely to the concerns of independent, professional lighting designers.
