Flos Debuts Gift Collection at NY Int’l Gift Fair
Flos, the renowned Italian lighting design company, will participate for the first time in the New York International Gift Fair this August with their newly introduced 2012 Gift Collection: small, portable table and task lighting available in a range of affordable price points. The collection features items from Flos’ carefully curated group of renowned designers, from Philippe Starck to Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec.
Comprising 12 portable lighting options, the Gift Collection includes new designs such as the MiniKelvin by Antonio Citterio and the Piani designed by the Bouroullec Brothers, as well as mainstays in the Flos catalog such as the May Day by Konstantin Grcic and the Miss K and Miss K Soft designed by Philippe Starck.
“This collection of portable gift items was a natural fit for the New York International Gift Fair because of the lamps’ portability, the ability for consumers to purchase and carry the lamp out the door, and the collection’s excellent quality and affordable price point,” said Jan Vingerhoets, CEO of Flos US. “Flos has always been known for innovative design and advanced technology, and with this new collection we will introduce the Flos line to a different group of retailers and consumers…. We would like to expand our reach to museum stores, high-end design gift shops, and upscale department stores.”
The collection includes pieces that are highly technical, in the case of the D’E-light, also by Philippe Starck, which acts as a charger for an iPad, iPhone and iPod and also features an LED light source. The adjustable aluminum Kelvin LED, by Antonio Citterio, has a touch-activated on-off switch. More decorative pieces include the Mini Teca, designed by Ron Gilad, with its fringed shade and glass case, and the Can Can Mini, designed with Marcel Wanders’ signature Baroque detailing. Each of the pieces in the collection retails for under $500.
“Flos has always created lighting that is highly functional but also decorative, beautiful and sometimes even playful. Flos has collaborated with numerous international designers to imagine a collection that has something for everyone. Our thought is that retailers at the NYIGF will find something that appeals to everyone,” Vingerhoets said.
