Evoluzione Light

Watch out, because the interactive Evoluzione Light kit can be addictive. The Evoluzione Light invites its owner to spend the evenings creating and refining the table light, challenge friends to create the best table light design or vary the light form to suit a mood or changing décor desires.

The Evoluzione Light is a collaboration between Furniture Designer/Maker Andrea Felice, and Architect and friend Angelo Grasso. Initially wanting to create a game for children, the designers started to play with interlocking geometric shapes. Both Grasso and Felice are fans of Buckminster Fuller and his iconic Buckyballs, and this led to the creation of the interlocking triangular shapes. While playing around with it one evening, they decided to light it up – and the Evoluzione Light was born.

“The light is very much a game of shape, light and shadows, where you can play at being ‘Bucky’ in your home,” writes Felice in his blog. “Creating small compact lights or large structures simply by joining the wooded triangles with rubber links or by slotting the triangles directly into one and another. The structures can be built upon the inner Perspex LED light, or forms can be created independently as stand alone pieces…. Even in it’s basic stacked form the light retains its design value of contrasts between geometric and organic.”

Evoluzione Light constructional details:

  • Constructed from plywood triangular pieces, Perspex core, and LED light; pieces can be attached to the Perspex core and each other either by slotting into each other, or by the use of rubber links.
  • The internal light “core” is 240 mm high when pieces are stacked into a tower with 100mm triangular sides.
  • When the light is constructed it can form much larger shapes (size depends on the users creation).

The Evoluzione Light will be launched at TENT London (part of the London Design Festival) September 20-23, AF Designs Stand G21. TENT visitors will be invited to play with the light and create their own structures.

About AF Designs

Created by London-based Italian designer and maker Andrea Felice, AF Designs creates contemporary bespoke and limited-edition sculptural furniture, handcrafted to the highest standard. Felice originates from the village of Montegnacco and trained as an industrial designer. But, with woodworking “ingrained” in his family history, he turned to carving and then furniture making. Felice has worked for some of the best furniture makers in London. This is the 4th year that AF Designs will exhibit at TENT in London, and was “pick of the show” by IDFX Magazine each time.
